Both Claiborne Christian junior Anna Cate Miller and Fairview senior Landon Strother had outstanding seasons on the mound/circle and at the plate, respectively, for their respective softball teams.
Following the voting of a panel of judges from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, the two athletes have earned starting positions on the all-state baseball and softball teams for Class C.
Miller has been selected as the Most Valuable Player for the softball team. She led Claiborne Christian to the Division V select state title in Sulphur and finished with a record of 18-3 in the circle throughout the tournament. Miller also had a batting average of.510, in addition to seven home runs and forty RBIs.
The Most Valuable Player award for baseball goes to Strother. He led Fairview to the Division V select quarterfinals, where they were ultimately eliminated by Pitkin, who went on to win the state championship. Strother made a swing.405 with 21 runs batted in and 21 runs scored while also compiling a pitching record of 6-3 with an ERA of 0.438. He got 61 strikeouts in 48 innings.
Chris Winstead, a first-year coach at Claiborne Christian, and Cody Moroni, a coach at Family Community, were recognized as the Class C Coaches of the Year, respectively.
Claiborne was led to victory by Miller and fellow all-staters Allie and Lily Wainwright under the direction of Winstead, who led Claiborne to yet another state title. Moroni was the driving force behind Family Community making it all the way to the Division V select state championship game for the very first time.
