In 2023, the Indianapolis Colts will rely heavily on their youthful players, including their freshman quarterback Anthony Richardson, who is off to a strong start.
Isaiah Rodgers, a fourth-year cornerback, is a savvy veteran compared to the 12 draft choices in Indianapolis this summer. Rodgers, who is still only 25 years old, is receiving a great deal of attention this offseason heading into 2023.
Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report described Rodgers as the Colts
Say what you will about B/R, but Ballentine was on to something, as NFL.com’s analytics expert Cynthia Frelund followed up this week by labeling Rodgers the most underrated player on the Colts.
Rodgers’ average salary on his rookie contract is only $860,031, which at the time of her writing ranked him 301st among cornerbacks in terms of average pay.
We had to double-check that 301st number because there are nearly ten cornerbacks per team and Rodgers would be last, but Spotrac lists the number as 289.
Rodgers may be bursting through the barrier of best-kept secret and underappreciation, and for one more season, he will unquestionably be included on any “best bargains” lists.
Upon becoming a free agent at the end of the season, he can anticipate a tenfold increase in compensation.
After this season, Rodgers will not be on any of the aforementioned lists, and he will be pleased to receive a raise.
