The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) World Games 2023 will be held in Birmingham, and the Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) has confirmed that they would be competing there.
The games are planned to take place from the 18th through the 27th of August, and for the very first time, the sport of blind cricket will be featured at the World Games.
Teams for the blind, both men’s and women’s, from India have already registered to compete in the competition. In the next months, it is anticipated that the teams would conduct their training in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru will train teams in the following months.
CABI has revealed a formidable 16-person women’s squad that will compete in the games, and the organization has stated that the men’s team will be revealed very soon.
The squad included four players from the B2 category, six players from the B1 category, and three players from the B3 category.
In their most recent preparation for the World Games, the women’s squad competed in a five-game bilateral series against Nepal in Kathmandu.
“This is a proud moment for Blind cricket in India as our team will be participating in the World Games where cricket will be included for the first time,” stated Dr. Mahantesh G. Kivadasannavar, President of the CABI, in reference to the participation of the national team in the World Games.
“Cricket has been included in the World Games for the first time.” The athletes are going to get a lot of attention because of these games, and it is my hope that they will put on a good show and do our nation proud.
