The WTC was bittersweet for India. They lost both finals in 2021 and 2023 despite being serious challengers. First New Zealand, then Australia at the Oval. The ICC tournament finals loss haunts India’s Test cricket triumph.
Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra questioned why the ICC does not use its power over Test cricket to arrange a bilateral series inside the WTC cycle. He requested a high-profile India-Pakistan series at an ICC tournament.
Fans hope the third WTC will be different.
On his YouTube channel, Chopra stated that India vs. Pakistan matches are crucial to ICC tournaments and have traditionally been arranged at the start to boost viewership and revenue. He noted the six-year absence of an India-Pakistan series and said that given the WTC is an ICC event, all matches within its cycle should be under ICC jurisdiction.
You don’t play all teams. WTC, ICC event. Can you envision an ICC tournament without India vs. Pakistan after 4 years? “Never,” Chopra remarked on his channel.
“ICC event. If not, clarify. “Call it bilateral cricket and accept that you made WTC just to glamorize Tests,” Chopra said.
The yearning to see a Test match between India and Pakistan remains unmet, even if they are in the same Asia Cup group. The countries will meet again in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India, but they still want a Test match.
